We’ve run the car around 300-400 miles now but its drinking oil like mad!
Too late to do anything about it now and will just have to fill the boot with oil and hope for the best.

Finishing touches
Tonight we’ve been working on replacing the Jap spec stereo which was broken. A nice little system from Hong Kong. Difficult with the lack of light to get a decent photo but probably just as well you can’t see whats playing on the DVD…….
Stickered Up
Burning the midnight oil last night as we relived the early morning finishes that were the norm on the rail car earlier in the year. Finished about 1:30am this morning and getting those big Subaru vinyls on was a right, right ****. Looks good in the photo just don’t get within 6ft of the car.
Got a few more stickers to put on and made a few mistakes but on the whole quite pleased with our work.
MOT’d!!!!
Hooray!!! At last the car is road worthy and passed its MOT.
Stickers arrive
Thank you Janspeed!
Janspeed came up trumps!!!
Certainly helps when you’ve got the right tools and 40 years experience of making exhausts. The guys in the workshop took our repair pipe section and flared it out so we can sleeve the two sections together.
We expected a charge for the work but as it was for charity they did it for free and threw in a handful of stickers for the car.
Thank you Matt at Janspeed! ![]()
Janspeed
Well I’ve been putting in 70-90 hour weeks back to back at work for the last month or so and Ben has been flat out with his business so unfortunately something has had to take a back seat and it was the car.
However it’s all calming down a bit at work so we’re off to Janspeed this morning to get the centre section of the exhaust modified so it’ll fit the car. Fingers crossed this will work fine and we can then get it MOT’d as we are rapidly running out of time!
Quick update
We’ve slowly been aquiring the parts we think we need for the MOT. Have bought 5 passenger front indicators and everyone arrived smashed in transit bar the last which is in such good nick I’m beginning to think we need to replace the drivers side one now…. AARGH!!
The intercooler rad, idle and knock sensors have arrived and I picked up a rather fine piece of 3″ stainless tubing from J & T Tubes.
Intercooler schmintercooler
The further we delve into the workings of our “mystery machine” the more we find wrong.
After filling the Turbo’s intercooler system with the proper coolant mixture, we discovered the leak in the intercoolor itself, as it spurted out all over the place
Which was slightly annoying.
The second sensor that needs replacing now, is the idle control sensor, which we’ve fortunately sourced through the Lagacy forum along with a replacement indicator and intercooler.
Touch wood & fingers crossed, once we’ve replaced these parts and the exhaust, it should be ready for the MOT.
Let’s see…………
Not all that glitters is gold!
After the last session we had putting the front end straight, it seemed as if everything was going very well, until we noticed the “Engine check light” had decided to light up
Well after another bribing session of ginger snap biscuits and tea, Simon very kindly plugged in his box of tricks to analyse the fault.
It’s all down to the car sitting for over a year, and things electrical don’t like that very much apparently.
The prognossis is an iffy knock sensor and possibly a dirty sensor somewhere else, oh and the exhaust is blowing.
So some more work to keep us busy then, well it is all for charity, hopefully we’ll raise more than the current amount…………..hint hint
