After our cups of tea and a long chat we realised we both loved the old Tamiya Rough Rider and have always fancied a real sand rail.

So it was obvious (to no one but us - I’m seeing a pattern) to take the donor parts from the Beetle and build a sand rail. Just the ideal vehicle to drive 3500 miles on a road…. Well anyway we looked at sourcing a sand rail chassis. A doddle in the US where they sell them buy the 1000’s but in the UK you either have to import them from the US which is big money and not the idea of the Scally Rally or seek out a rare UK version from a long defunct company called UVA called the Fugitive.
Once we started looking we found a glut and all at stupidly cheap prices because no one wants them - so much so we’ve bought 3 frames. All came with loads of other goodies ie. engines, gearboxes, steering, wheels etc. etc. and all for less than the cost just one of the component parts!
So we’ll make one for the rally and two to muck around on off road. ![]()
